The more I think about it the more I truly believe that Masterchef should be considered a sport. It has series' like seasons, it has it's own leagues with Masterchef and Masterchef: The Professionals, everybody competes against one another and you definitely have someone that you're supporting. It is just as exciting as watching 11 men run around a field for 90 minutes and when I see a perfectly executed pannacotta I celebrate just as heartily as anyone celebrating a goal or a match win (except for my Dad when he is watching the Rugby, that is an incredibly unique thing to behold).
Its fast paced and frantic and there is nothing else like it! Like a sport, you never know which way it's going to go and tell me there anything as exciting as when they have 5 minutes left and they haven't even started there white wine reduction. The main reason I want Competitive Cooking to be recognised as a sport is because it would mean there would minor leagues. Imagine, local Masterchef competitions with amatuers rising through the ranks, showing skills early as promising bakers and chefs before being thrown into the big leagues of national television, I could see a future winner in a local comp.
Long live competitive cooking, the future sport of Kings!
